What is VoiceOtaku?

VoiceOtaku is a voice-driven AI assistant that recommends anime to you based on what you say. You call in, describe your mood or preferences, and it recommends something to watch — all through a natural voice conversation.

Do I need to create an account?

No. VoiceOtaku requires no login, no email, and no registration. Just open the app and start a call.

Is VoiceOtaku free to use?

VoiceOtaku is a community tool. Check with the person or team running the instance you're using for any usage policies.

What languages does it support?

Currently VoiceOtaku is optimised for English voice input and responses. Other languages may work partially depending on the underlying speech recognition, but English will give you the best results.


Calls & Queue

Why do I have to wait in a queue?

VoiceOtaku processes one call at a time to maintain quality. The queue is fair — first come, first served. See The Queue System for more detail.

How long is the maximum call duration?

Each call can last up to 2 minutes. A timer on screen counts down and warns you before the call ends.

What happens if my time runs out?

The call ends automatically and you're returned to the main screen. Your queue slot is released for the next person.

I lost my queue position — why?

Closing the browser tab, refreshing the page, or navigating away removes you from the queue. You'll need to click Start Call again to rejoin.

Can I queue again immediately after a call?

Yes. As soon as your call ends you can click Start Call to rejoin the queue.


Microphone & Audio

The app isn't detecting my microphone.

Make sure your browser has microphone permission. See Microphone Setup for browser-specific steps.

Can I use a Bluetooth headset?

Yes, as long as your browser recognises the headset as an audio input device. Use the microphone selector to choose it before starting a call.

I can hear myself echoing in the AI's responses.

This is audio feedback. Use headphones or lower your speaker volume so the microphone doesn't pick up the AI's output.

The AI doesn't seem to hear me properly.

  • Speak clearly and at a normal volume.
  • Make sure no other application is using your microphone exclusively.
  • Try selecting a different microphone in the selector.
  • Check your system's input volume level isn't too low.

Recommendations

Can VoiceOtaku recommend movies as well as series?

Yes — the AI knows about anime films, OVAs, and series.

What if I've already seen the recommendation?

Just say so! For example: "I've already watched that. Can you suggest something else?" The AI will offer an alternative.

Does VoiceOtaku remember my preferences between calls?

No. Each call starts fresh — the AI has no memory of previous sessions. You'll need to give context again in each new call.

Can I ask about specific streaming platforms?

You can ask, but VoiceOtaku may not always have up-to-date information about where specific titles are currently streaming. It's best used for discovering what to watch; use a site like JustWatch to find where to stream it.


Technical

Does VoiceOtaku store my voice recordings?

No. Audio is processed in real time and is not stored after the call ends.

Why does it need HTTPS?

Browsers require a secure HTTPS connection before granting microphone access. This is a browser security requirement, not something VoiceOtaku controls.

The app seems stuck or frozen.

Try refreshing the page. If you were in queue, you'll need to rejoin. If the issue persists, check your internet connection or try a different browser.
