Microphone Setup

VoiceOtaku needs access to your microphone to hear you. This page covers how to grant permission and troubleshoot common issues.

Granting Microphone Permission

The first time you click Start Call, your browser will show a permission prompt asking to access your microphone.

  • Click Allow to proceed.
  • If you click Block by mistake, follow the browser-specific steps below to fix it.

Chrome / Edge

  1. Click the lock icon or camera/mic icon in the address bar (left side).
  2. Find Microphone and change it from Blocked to Allow.
  3. Refresh the page and try again.

Alternatively: Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Microphone → [site] → Allow.

Firefox

  1. Click the lock icon in the address bar.
  2. Click Connection Secure → More Information.
  3. Go to the Permissions tab.
  4. Find Use the Microphone and set it to Allow.
  5. Refresh the page.

Safari

  1. Go to Safari → Settings → Websites → Microphone.
  2. Find the VoiceOtaku site in the list.
  3. Change the setting to Allow.
  4. Refresh the page.

Selecting a Specific Microphone

If you have multiple audio input devices, you can choose which one VoiceOtaku uses:

  1. On the main screen, look for the microphone selector near the Start Call button.
  2. Click it to expand a list of available devices.
  3. Select your preferred microphone.
  4. Click Start Call — your selection will be used for the session.

Note: The device list shows all microphones currently recognised by your browser. Plug in a headset or external mic before opening the selector to have it appear in the list.

Troubleshooting

"Microphone not found" error

  • Make sure a microphone is plugged in and recognised by your operating system.
  • Check that no other application has exclusive access to the microphone.
  • Try a different browser.

My voice isn't being picked up

  • Speak closer to the microphone.
  • Check that the correct device is selected in the microphone selector.
  • Check your system volume settings — some OSes have separate input levels.
  • Make sure you're not muted at the OS level (some laptops have hardware mute buttons).

Feedback / echo during the call

  • Use headphones so the AI's audio output doesn't feed back into your microphone.
  • Lower your speaker volume.

The browser keeps asking for permission every time

  • Make sure you click Allow (not just dismiss) when the prompt appears.
  • Check that your browser isn't set to clear site permissions on exit.
